The iAmReading app draws upon principles from Montessori education, specifically tailored for early readers. Its primary objective is to assist new readers in recognizing and articulating repeating sounds within the English language, making it suitable for beginners and young learners.

The app is structured around phonetic groupings that emphasize recurring sounds. In a traditional classroom, each page corresponds to a card displaying a collection of words. The app mirrors this approach by allowing independent interaction; users can pronounce the words and then verify their pronunciation by tapping on each word to hear the correct enunciation.

User engagement is centralized in the Words tab on iPhones, while the iPad interface features a "Choose a word grouping" window for selection. Users can click on an icon representing a particular word grouping to access its contents. For groupings that encompass multiple sets of words—such as long vowel sounds—an additional window provides more detailed options. Upon selecting a specific grouping, a list of corresponding words becomes visible. Users can select the Sound button located in the top bar to hear the repeating sound associated with that grouping. To navigate back, simply click the Done button.

Individual words within the list can be pronounced by tapping on them directly. It's worth noting that iPhone users may encounter multiple pages of word groupings, with a total of 64 distinct groupings, each containing approximately eight or more words. The design effectively fosters phonetic recognition and pronunciation skills in a user-friendly format.
